Bennett -- Will love triumph and a serial killer finally meet his just deserts? : Combining a murder mystery and a romance doesn't always work out well, but Gerri Hill, one of my long-time favorite lesbian novelists, has made it work perfectly both ways in RED TIDE AT HERON BAY. Lauren Voss runs a resort for her grandmother on the Texas coast. Detective Harley Shepherd, a recent addition to the local police department, is dispatched to check out vandalism at the resort Lauren runs. A cryptic message written in blood at the clubhouse leads Harley to think this is more than just a break-in. Lauren and Harley are thrown together as the murder mystery unfolds and they develop real feelings for each other. Since they've both sworn off romance, they must first overcome their own resistance to feeling anything--and at the same time find the serial killer before one or both of them is killed. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from The old one! -- Perfect blend of mystery and romance : I got so wrapped up in this story that I forgot the real world for a time. I loved the location since I am a fairly frequent visitor to Rockport in real life. My favorite books involve women in uniform and Harley certainly filled that requirement quite well. The flirting between Harley and Lauren was very enjoyable. The mystery of "who is the bad guy" was well told. There were no down times within the pages. Really liked Harley, Lauren and the secondary characters. I highly recommend this one. Thank you, Gerri Hill, for another unforgettable book. ( Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2021 )

She makes it look like it's an easy crime to solve but it's who you least suspect. I love the romance side of the story. It's very emotional and it also points out something a lot of us do.
